SARRA FLUTE M.S.W., R.S.W

Sarra Flute is a Registered Social Worker + psychotherapist with almost a decade of experience helping individuals + families navigate mental health + interpersonal challenges.

Sarra earned her B.A in Social Development Studies + later her Masters of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Waterloo with a focus in clinical health.  During her career in mental health counselling, she has been trained in evidence-based therapeutic approaches and has provided therapy to a wide variety of diverse clients from all walks of life in child welfare, child & youth crisis + complex adult mental health. Sarra specializes in working with individuals who are among the most vulnerable and marginalized in our society. She is an ally to racialized, marginalized + underserved communities;  recognizing the beauty in every person’s unique social identity.
Sarra currently splits her time in adult community mental health for a large mental health hospital, helping individuals with severe + persistent mental illness in a recovery-based framework on a specialized team.
Sarra was born in Toronto + raised in East Gwillimbury Ontario. She has a passion for animals, nature, and a more recent interest in holistic based medicines + lifestyle after her own healing journey. Sarra enjoys travelling + experiencing new foods from different parts of the world. She has hopes to one day be fluent in Spanish.
Sarra uses an integrative therapy approach, blending techniques from a variety of treatment modalities including some from CBT, DBT, Polyvagal Theory, and Acceptance + Commitment work. Sarra has successfully helped both individuals + families by using her strong therapeutic stance which mirrors acceptance, structure, and consistency, to build trust. She can help individuals develop insight and growth around issues surrounding trauma, emotional dysregulation, sexual abuse/child abuse, substance use, and child/adult attachment issues. Sarra brings a calming energy in therapy and believes it can be transformative to one’s own healing process to understand past experiences and how these can impact your relationships, personality, and even physical health.
Sarra also has a particular interest in family work/conflict, and helping individuals navigate the sometimes isolating experience of having a family member diagnosed or struggling with a mental illness. Sarra uses a recovery model which forms treatment plans alongside the individual that are both empowering + collaborative.
